About Golden Falls

The Golden Falls Waterski Club, founded officially in 1962 following initial skiing in 1959 by pioneers like the Johnson and Bewley families, stands as one of Europe's oldest active waterski clubs on the Golden Falls Reservoir near Blessington.

Throughout its history, key figures such as Des Burke-Kennedy and Harry Bridges drove significant development, securing major sponsorships, notably with Irish Distillers, which resulted in the creation of a new jump ramp, the Golden Falls Boardwalk, and professional slalom and jump courses.

The club has been fundamental to Irish waterskiing, producing multiple national champions like David Johnson and Alan Dagg, and hosting high-quality international competitions enhanced by the local innovation of Donal Connolly's SplashEye technology which was pioneered at Golden Falls.

Today Golden Falls continues as a full three event (slalom, jump & trick) Waterski site and is capable of hosting competition events.

Golden Falls remains an important site in Ireland, with members competing in the National League and the site periodically hosting the National Championship.

We currently have members representing Ireland at international level and we are extremely proud to cheer them on!
